The badges section on the right hand side of the default page view doesn't show anything, but users have earned badges already. Why are the badges missing? Is that feature broken?

There needs to be a certain number of tags/badges before the recent badges actually start showing anything interesting.

Given time and activity it will start showing results.

For those of you who need specifics

... with the caveat that these details are subject to change:

For the recent tags box:

  • We take the most recent n non-deleted questions with at least one up vote.
  • We count the number of occurrences of each tag attached to those questions.
  • We put tags that occur at least 6 times in the above count into the recent tags box.
  • We then cache the output for at least 3 minutes.

The recent badges box is simpler: only gold and silver badges are shown. For future releases

I may take some time to look into adjusting the queries so that it provides results of some kind for low traffic sites (much like I did for the "hot" tab).

So lets keep building the site so we can start to see those stinky badges!
