Bare minimum, essentials only (ie: studio/one bedroom, food, etc.) How much income is needed to live/move to San Francisco?

Depends on what you are willing to do with/without. Don't mind sharing a room? You can get a spot in Chinatown amongst several other people in a small apartment for like $100/month. Of course, you're cooking off a hot plate with virtually no privacy in that situation. So accommodation, look to spend anywhere between $400 - $1000 depending on where you want to be and in what type of situation.

Food depends, too. Do you cook? Do you know how to shop on the cheap? You can live almost for free in a city like San Francisco, but you have to know how to forage. Say $20 a day for food, being generous. You basically need to pull in about $1600 a month just to get by, and that's with very little in the way of luxury. It can be done, but not by everyone.
