I won't have a car and am looking for a way to get there using public transportation. Is this possible? Thanks! |

Hmmm..good question. It looks like the GGT is trying something soon: "On Thursday, April 7, the Transportation Committee of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District (GGBHTD) Board of Directors will be asked to authorize execution of a one-year agreement with Marin Transit to operate Muir Woods Shuttle on weekends and holidays from May 7, 2011 to September 25, 2011. The service is projected at a cost not to exceed $331,836. The roundtrip fare will remain set at $3.00. The Marin Transit Board of Directors approved entering into an agreement with GGBHTD for 2011 Muir Woods Shuttle service at its March 14, 2011 meeting. Final approval by the GGBHTD Board of Directors is requested by April 8, 2011 to allow time to lease equipment, train drivers, prepare schedules and develop marketing materials. The summer 2011 service will operate as follows:" |

Found this on reddit from the user @matra:The direct bus is the #66 special Muir Woods route. The alternative off-season is the #61 South Marin Stage Coach. Taking this alternative route requires walking down to Muir Woods. The "Mountain Home" stop is the stop closest Muir Woods The hills in this area are quite steep so if you are not ready for a fairly strenuous work-out (especially the walk all up hill ~1000 feet vertical on the return trip to the Mountain Home bus stop), you may want to look into alternatives like taking a taxi. http://www.marintransit.org/pdf/Stage%20Map%20June%202010.pdf
