What's the status of same-sex marriage in San Francisco?

A few years ago, I think Gavin Newsom was one of the pioneers in legalizing same-sex marriage in the city. However, that's been overturned (and again, back and forth) several times since then.

Can someone provide me the history up to now? For example, are those earliest marriages now invalidated, or are the couples' legal rights still intact?
