driving to San Diego, and wanted some advice. |

Most of the drive is going to be on I-5. The driving distance is going to be 502 mi - about 7 hours 45 mins and up to 10 hours 0 mins in traffic. If you want to skip the 5 dollar toll coming back, then take CA 152w and cut onto the 101n, skipping the toll altogether. ;)
Route 152
(a) Route 1 near Watsonville via Hecker Pass to Route 101 in Gilroy. (b) Route 101 near Gilroy to Route 65 near Sharon via Pacheco Pass I take this route often, but I never thought about the toll savings. The road through Gilroy to the pass and Los Banos is beautiful.

Take I-5 for a direct, fast route. Cuts right through the valley. However, if you'd like a more scenic route and have some time to kill, take Highway 1 south, also known as The Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). You can get views like this: |
