How much do I tip the staff at my apartment office? Is it a dollar amount or a percentage of my monthly rent?

About me: I live in an apartment building managed by an office with several employees who take our maintenance requests, receive our packages, etc. I am gainfully employed and I like my apartment staff a lot.

(Question is inspired by this MSN article about appropriate amounts to tip during a recession.)

Turns out that my apartment staff isn't allowed to accept cash. No tipping here, I guess! I'm surprised and now wonder where the widespread convention comes from elsewhere.

I think cards are a good choice, and they have the feeling of more TLC then money. Either go to your local store or online.

I use Moo and am pleased

I already use Moo.com for all my cards (postcards and personal calling cards) and have been very happy with it. To clarify, the reason I asked the question is that I don't want to buck convention if I don't have a good reason to do so. On the other hand, I recognize that it's different from the restaurant situation, where the staff literally relies on tips for income.

In my experience, there is no tipping of apartment staff. A nice card should suffice.
