Hey, has anyone used any online dating services in San Francisco? I know that we are a very "plugged in" city, so I imagine that there are a lot of people in the networks here. Any luck?

OkCupid is also particularly gay-friendly, which isn't true of every dating site but is a pretty important factor for lots of San Franciscans.

OkCupid seems to have a different, younger demographic than what I hear other dating sites have. Which (depending on you) is nice.

I have a friend who met her husband through J-Date. She thought the site was very professional and met some wonderful people who she is still friends with.

Nerve

Nerve.com is a trendy sex-slanted webzine which offers photos, articles, fiction, essays and funky-sexy products like sex-position calendars, sex etiquette books and hip T-shirts. Their personals database stems out of the Spring Street Network, of which more below. On Nerve, you pay for what you use. Other services bill monthly, but Nerve works on credits. It takes a credit to contact someone, but you can reply to a message received for free. Chatting also burns credits--fairly quickly, I might add--at a cost of 2 credits for 30 minutes, or 3 for 60.
