so I have been thinking a lot about how we phrase and discuss food questions on SF Answers site, and here are my thoughts:

We have Yelp, and there should be no reason to ask general questions about food, ie: List of Chinese restaurants in San Francisco, Thai restaurants in SF, Dive Bars in San Francisco, as the list would be too long.

Yelp has filters and more comprehensive lists - use it

Instead of those general questions, this would be more appropriate:

Favorite Thai Restaurants, Favorite Chinese Restaurants in San Francisco, or Good Barbecue in SF.

The favorites tag is very useful, and already have lots of fav-questions associated with them.

I don't know if food "favorites" is necessarily a great use of this site, either. I'd rather search Yelp when I can because it meets 90% of what I need and because they specialize in this topic. Of course it's fine if someone does want to ask very specific questions here (e.g., "Where can I get a Dark & Stormy"), but just as people bootstrapping the site, I think we'd be better off focusing our efforts elsewhere.

you're a moderator! do you have any suggestions? should we re-word it a different way? The reason I posted this, was so people don't write general questions about food. I am open to ideas.. im going to be creating a meta for us here.. hey - do you have any ideas on a meta? should i just use google sites/ groups?

also - i removed any reference/module to bootstrapping, we are still in bootstrap mode, but I dont think sharing the info will help rankings or traffic

For what it is worth, the "favorites" tag seems to work and is applicable. There's no need to list off restaurants, because that just seems lazy and spammy. The "favorites" tag lets users in the community give their two cents, which is kind of like Yelp but obviously not as robust. If anything, the "favorites" tag combined with community wiki can provide an interesting insight into the community's preferences.
