I know smoking in public establishments is banned in San Francisco, but what places refuse to enforce this law? There are still a few places in San Francisco where you can smoke, which ones, and where are they?

The Cigar Bar & Grill - yelp reviews

Formerly a Mexican restaurant, 850 is an airy, rustic, candlelighted space that opens onto a courtyard and allows both cigar and cigarette smoking. There's a fancy red pool table, the sound system plays sugary European pop and the bar sells "Bucket's O' Beer": five assorted bottles of foreign brews for $15 (or $12 for domestics).

Tosca Cafe - yelp reviews

a dramatic, high-ceilinged room filled with yummy red vinyl banquettes. The first thing you see when you walk in the door is a signature-covered petition reading, "Sign here to repeal the ban." Puffing patrons give the bar a smoky, romantic ambiance. It gets mobbed on weekends, though, so choose a weeknight for your tobacco-fueled rendezvous if you want to get a table.

Mission Bar, just north of Mission & 23rd, doesn't allow smoking inside the bar but doesn't seem to care that smokers congregate well within 20 feet of the entrance, thus allowing smoke to waft in and create an awful stinkbox effect. My two cents as someone sensitive to smells.

As someone who hates smoke, I still think it's a relevant answer, as something for me to avoid. But I guess the half-assed policy really pleases no one. – Sharon♦ Mar 10 at 7:53

My favorite smoke-friendly bar is on Sutter in the Tender-Knob area: The Summer Place. Here's a link to the Yelp review.

SO AWESOME. Seriously.

This is a quiet bar, and every time I've been in here they have like 5 people max in the place. You slink in here to listen to the juke box and possibly do some serious drinking in relative peace.

For the smokers amongst you, this place is a smoking establishment. Two points, right there. You can have the bartender pour up your favorite libation and light 'em up at the bar. Classic, I tells ya!

The decor is retro. I am undecided if this is on purpose or through what would otherwise be known as neglect. In either case, the place is pretty damned awesome to be in. Like stepping back to the days of yore. For real flavor they have a fire place, which is operational. Score! Perfect compliment to that smoke and the brew on a cold summer evening in the Bay City.
