I know coffee houses or cafes where you can get tea but where are there just tea houses? Are there any? What are your favorites? Tea houses in San Francisco?

The first place that came to mind was the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, across from the California Academy of Sciences. It is a traditional Japanese garden, surrounded by five acres of land. Intricately landscaped with pagodas, ceremonial Buddhas, Koi ponds, waterfalls, cherry trees, stone gardens, and a half-moon bridge, it's a pretty cool spot to see (if not a bit touristy). A pot of green tea and a cookie will set ya back about ~$4. The Tea Garden is at its best (and most popular) during the spring.

Om Shan Tea - burner/hippie atmosphere. A couple of dollars buys you as much tea as you can drink; just sit around the table, chat and drink out of tiny tiny cups. Lovejoy's - English style tea shop with lace doilies, delicious pastries, and excellent tea. Imperial Tea Court - The best Chinese tea shop in San Francisco that I know of. Some of the varieties are very very expensive however.
