4grim your almost right! There is the Pit Bull Ordinance.

A new law is now in effect that makes it illegal to own an unaltered pit bull - or pit bull mix - in San Francisco. Also in effect is San Francisco Health Code Section 44, which requires owners to obtain a permit from Animal Care and Control in order to breed their pit bull or pit bull mixes.....

....he new San Francisco law was created from information gathered by a special 'canine response working group' convened by Mayor Gavin Newsom in the aftermath of the tragic June 2005 fatal mauling of Nicholas Faibish - the 12 year-old-boy who was killed at home in San Francisco by his family's pet pit bulls.

I don't think that anyone can tell you which breed of dog you're allowed to own, or has the right to make that sort of distinction.

I believe it's only permissible for them to specify types of animals in general or size of animals that are not allowed in their units. Any variations there of would be subject to your landlord because they can always make an argument about them being too messy, loud, or something else (so there may be some skew and they may be able to bar a particular pitbul).

I am not a lawyer though so there may be a law having to deal with it, but I don't think so. Mostly because bad training can make any dog bite, and if the dog's aren't pure bred then I don't know how they would be able to justify the same 'mean tendencies' are in any particular dog.

good point, though I'm still curious if their is a law. I guess I should do some research, or let others take a stab
