How much can a landlord raise the rent in San Francisco each year? Does the city have rent control? |
|
Most of SF is under rent control to help keep the city livable for most people. There are certain rules for when rent is allowed to be increased and still barriers as to how much and the tenets are given about 60 days notice to fee increases. All this has to be approved by the Rent Board and usually monitored by the Tenets Union. To shy away from misconstruing some of the facts and/or being redundant, the Tenet's Union page gives a good bearing on the issue in SF. http://www.sftu.org/rentcontrol.html
Remember, these controls are highly contested with a lot of groups both within SF and throughout the nation. |
